Equality Statement:

Dr Walkers Primary is an inclusive school in which we act to ensure all pupils have equal access to the curriculum.  In doing this we work with all pupils regardless of race, religion, special educational needs, disability or sexual orientation to ensure achievement for all.

We recognise the general Equality Duty requires us to have due regard to the need to:

  • Eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation and any other conduct that is prohibited by or under the Equality Act 2010.
  • Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a relevant protected characteristic and people who do not share it.
  • Foster good relations between people who share a relevant protected characteristic and those who do not share it.

We recognise our duty in setting specific, measurable equality objectives.

 Equality Objectives are:

  • To ensure all pupils achieve and make progress from EYFS to end of Key Stage 2 irrespective of their race, gender disability, belief, religion or socio-economic background
  • To monitor and analyse pupil achievement of the different groups within the school including but not limited to those with SEND and gender differences
  • To improve the attendance rates of pupils who are considered to be ‘persistently absent’
  • To ensure that our school curriculum provides representation and promotes positive messages about equality and diversity of all those with protected characteristic; actively challenging stereotypes
  • To review levels of parental and pupil engagement in learning and school life across all activities to ensure equity and fairness in access
  • To ensure that professional development opportunities are provided for stakeholders to equip them with the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to meet the requirements of this policy.
